Toby Hollinghead
Toby Hollinghead was born in 1953 to Mannie and Katherine Goodwin, in McKenzie, Alabama. She was one of seven children. When she was two years old she had an accident that left her blind in her right eye. Also that year her father suffered a stroke that left him paralyzed on his right side. Her mother was left to care for their large family by herself. She supported them by working in the fields with her little children right there beside her. Toby grew up working in cotton fields and tobacco fields. There were hard times growing up, but joyous times with a family who loved each other and stayed together through it all.

"Eating Watermelon" acrylic on canvas 24" x 20" $400 (9120)
Toby now lives on a chicken farm in South Alabama with her husband. She started painting in 1998 when her daughter gave her paints and brushes for Christmas. She had always had an artistic nature, and music was her outlet then. She played various instruments and loved to sing. But that first art set unlocked a passion she didn’t know was there. She started painting and hasn’t stopped. She mainly uses acrylic paints on canvas, but will paint on most any paintable surface. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading, playing music, and painting.
